Local tips for guests: how to write the area guide

Local tips for guests are the places you would point a friend to, not the list a search returns. Here is how to write them: the categories, how many names are enough, the format of each tip and how to publish them in LOQY. There is an example to fill in below.

How do you write local tips for guests?

For each place, write the name, why you recommend it in one sentence and one practical detail: distance, whether to book, what to order or the best time to go. Group tips into categories such as breakfast, restaurants, shopping, transport and a rainy-day plan, and add the map link. Recommend only places you actually know.

How many restaurants should you recommend to guests?

You do not need a long list: a few chosen places, split by price and type of cooking, are more useful than dozens of names. Add a quick option, one for a special dinner and one that is open on Sunday or late at night. Check from time to time that they are still open.

Why local tips matter

A map lists everything nearby, without knowing what you would recommend. A guest cannot tell the restaurant you go to on Sunday from the one that appears only because it has more reviews. A tip from you closes that gap in one sentence.

It also helps the people who live off the area. A name you write, with the reason, sends the guest to a local café or shop instead of the first chain they find. LOQY does not handle deals or commissions: a tip is text and, if you attach the place, a button that opens the map.

The categories to cover

You do not need a category for everything. Start from what guests ask, then put each place in the category LOQY shows on the page.

How to reach the station, or the shuttle, is not a local tip: it lives in the Transport section of the guide. The whole picture, Wi-Fi and rules included, is the digital guest guide.

How to write local tips for guests

Four parts, always in the same order. The name. Why you recommend it, in one sentence. One practical detail: distance, whether to book, what to order or the best time to go. The map link, when the place has one.

A host in Cadore, where the LOQY team works, might fill in a lake like this, and then measure the minutes from their own house: “Lago di Misurina. A walk around the lake, easy with children too. In summer the car park fills up early: better to arrive in the morning.” The lake is there. You write the distance, and you check it again. Do not copy a place you have not tried.

The example below has three categories and two places each. The square brackets are yours. The English version has the same lines in the same order: keep them together if you also send the text to someone who does not read Italian. In the guide the note is translated on the Pro plan, as the question at the end says.

Example in Italian
Esempio da compilare. Sostituisci le parentesi quadre con posti che hai provato. Non copiare un posto che non conosci.

How many tips? Fewer, and real

You do not need a long list. A few chosen places, split by price and type of cooking, get used. Dozens of names do not.

  • For restaurants keep three roles, not thirty cards: a quick option, one for a special dinner, one open on Sunday or late at night.
  • For the other categories, one or two names are enough.
  • Check again before each season, and when a guest tells you a place has closed or changed its closing day.

An out-of-date tip is worse than no tip: the guest goes and finds the shutter down.

If you have a tie to a local business

Sometimes the café you recommend is yours, a relative’s, or it gives you something for the guests you send. Write it in the note, in one sentence: “It is my brother’s café” is enough. The guest can judge the tip for themselves.

If there is no tie, there is nothing to declare. LOQY has no partner field, keeps no list of affiliated businesses and pays no commission. Tips are text and links you publish yourself.

How to add them in LOQY

Local tips are on the Pro plan. The Free plan includes one property, the basic information, the QR code and total page views: it does not include local tips.

  1. Create your account. The Free plan covers one property and the QR code, with no credit card. Tips are added on the Pro plan.
  2. Pick the category and search for the place. The title fills in. If the property has an address, the distance is calculated. You can also leave text only, with no place.
  3. In the note, write why you recommend it and the practical detail. For an event you can add the dates.
  4. If the place has no page, you can attach a PDF, for example a menu or a trail map.
  5. The guest sees the categories, opens the one they need and finds the name, the note, the address, the distance and a button that opens Google Maps.

On the Pro plan you turn languages on: the note is translated into the 15 languages besides Italian that you enable, and the guest picks theirs. The place name stays as you wrote it. You also see which categories and which tips are opened. When you update a note, the printed QR code stays the same.

The Pro plan costs €10 a month or €90 a year, VAT excluded, with a 7-day trial and no card: if you do not add a card, you go back to Free. It adds unlimited properties, translations, local tips, the gallery, PDF menus, additional information, colour themes and statistics on sections and tips. If you manage several units and need dedicated onboarding, write to support@loqy.info and ask for a custom quote.

In the welcome book the area section is one line. In the B&B welcome book the tips sit among the property’s services. This page is how to fill them in. On a farm stay, products and the area belong in the digital guide for farm stays. Published properties are on the map of properties.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to say if a business is a partner of mine?
LOQY has no partner field and takes no commission. If the place is yours, a relative’s, or it gives you something for the guests you send, write it in the note. If there is no tie, there is nothing to declare on the page.
How often should I update the tips?
Before each season, and as soon as a guest tells you about a closure or a changed closing day. There is no fixed deadline. In LOQY you edit the note: the QR code stays the same.
Can I recommend experiences and tours?
Yes. They go in Excursions & Sports, in the same format: name, why you recommend it, a practical detail such as duration, booking or whether it suits children. LOQY does not sell the tours and takes no commission.
Are the tips translated automatically?
The note is, on the Pro plan, into the languages you turn on: 15 besides Italian. The place name stays as you wrote it. The Free plan does not include local tips.
